When people begin searching for someone to produce a trucking logo or are looking for trucking company logo examples, they almost always want to see a diagram of a truck... A truck is the first item that comes to mind, of course, but since there are 27,000+ trucking company websites - each with their own logo - I, for one, am glad not every single trucking company uses a truck in their logo.
Interestingly, although I do not want to mention the 10 largest trucking companies in the U.S., not one of the 10 uses a truck in their logo. Keeping this fact in mind, it may be a good idea for you to think outside of the box as well. All you have to do is follow the same basic rules to logo design as any other company - focuses on the benefits and services that you offer - as opposed to the industry you are in.
There are five elements that can be seen in every iconic logo:
- It’s describable
- It’s memorable
- It’s effective without colour - just in black and white
- It’s scalable i.e. works when just an inch in size or 20 ft. long on the side of your truck
- It’s appropriate
That's it. Nothing Else.
Just because you have a trucking company, it does not mean you absolutely have to have a truck / tractor in the logo. A person is more apt to remember the type of trucking service that you offer - as opposed to the fact that you are a trucking company. Example - if you are primarily a flatbed trucking company, then having a flatbed diagram as a part of the logo is much more appropriate than having a tractor that will be out of style in 10 years.

The trucking examples within this site are meant to get you to think out of the box, and to provide avenues for different logo design providers. Alot goes into a logo design and if you want a logo for under a hundred bucks, be prepared for it to look like it came out of the bargin bin. Moreover, you wouldn't move freight for free, so don't try to start a bidding war between two or more designers, as you will surely loose the one with more experience, and probably the better designer.
So what should you be looking for? Look for examples, of course. Not every designer is going to have a niche market; so, they may or may not have a trucking logo in thier portfolio. The point is to look at their overall portfolio. If they can create one logo in the fashion industry and another one for a heavy equipment manufacturer, then they are probably talented enough to design the brand for a transportation company. In particular, be sure to look for slogan / tagline examples.
A trucking company slogan - especially for a 3PL / broker - is probably one of the most difficult thing for a designer / copywiter to create. How many ways are there to say "we transport freight fast and efficiently"? You have to push the envelope before you even contact a designer or copywriter. So, think about the services you really want to promote, and what you want the viewer to "walk away with" after viewing your logo. |
